Digital transformation

The use of new technologies in the production of goods and services has grown considerably in recent years, posing significant challenges for workers and businesses. Workers may be replaced by these technologies, while businesses may face limits to innovation due to a shortage of skilled workers.

MIDE Development has experience collecting and analyzing information on companies’ labor demands and generating evidence on the effectiveness of interventions aimed at equipping workers with digital skills.

Our work in

digital transformation

Measuring digital skills gaps

Digital transformation requires workers with digital skills. Through company surveys and job analysis, we assess the challenges firms face in finding workers with the required digital skills and how public policies can help close this gap.

Online learning

Online learning platforms offer both opportunities and challenges. On the one hand, they expand access to quality providers at reduced costs. On the other hand, they require individuals to have the connectivity and skills needed to benefit from the training. We have gained these insights through various evaluations of education and job training programs.

Advanced digital skills training

Job training could help address the digital skills gaps faced by workers and companies. Our evaluations provide evidence on the effectiveness of programs such as bootcamps and microcredentials (e.g., Google Cloud, CISCO Academy).

Online platform workers

We measure the impact of training programs targeting digital platform workers, such as online freelancers and microwork participants. We assess the extent to which these interventions affect employment opportunities, income, and digital skills development, generating key evidence to inform policies that promote more equitable labor market integration in the digital economy.
